SEC Plans to Ease Rules for Tokenized Securities
The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission is considering regulatory changes that WOULD streamline the issuance of digital tokens tied to real-world assets. Commissioner Hester Peirce revealed the potential shift in a May 8 speech, signaling a possible exemptive order for blockchain-based securities platforms.
Such an exemption could relieve firms from registering as broker-dealers, clearing agencies, or exchanges—requirements designed before blockchain’s emergence. The MOVE particularly benefits decentralized exchanges, which have faced heightened SEC scrutiny in recent enforcement actions.
